The Evaluation Project of Students' Moral Enhancement Projects: Attitudes and Behaviors
This project aimed to develop moral scales based on behavioral and attitudinal aspects of children aged 11 to 22. The project was conducted from 2007-2008. We developed moral scales in 8 factors that increased to 9 factors later, which are
- Diligent
- Economy
- Honesty
- Discipline
- Politeness
- Physical Cleanness
- Mind Cleanness
- Cooperative
- Prosocial
Next, we used these scales to evaluate moral enhancement projects in Thailand. We sampled schools across Thailand and used these scales to measure two-time points: during and at the end of the Moral Enhancement Policy from the Ministry of Education. The total number of students was 7,764 within 119 schools. As a result, the influence of schools was strong for primary and middle schools. In contrast, it was lower for undergraduate students (ICC = .40 vs. .09). High GPAs and females had higher means in moral scales. Because the data structure is moral items nested in students and nested in schools, we used a multivariate three-level model (Raudenbush, Rowan, and Kang, 1991). The change scores were higher in professional, high, and primary school students.
